Since 2012, Discount Online Fitness has outfitted spaces like these nationwide from its DFW Airport, Texas warehouse.
The staff room is the part of a correctional facility that looks like any other public-safety gym: a rack, plate-loaded strength, a cardio bank on its own circuits and thick rubber, used around the clock by officers whose job is physical. How to equip a jail or prison staff gym with used commercial equipment
A correctional facility has two fitness problems in one building and they are specified almost nothing alike. The officer and staff wellness room is a public-safety gym with a harder shift pattern than most: used before, after and between shifts by a workforce whose job is carrying, restraining and climbing stairs under load, on public money or an operator’s per-facility budget. Inmate recreation is a security specification first — fixed, anchored, nothing removable — and that is a different product from anything sold used.
County sheriff’s offices and correctional operators are a segment that picked up for us in 2025. Below is how we plan the staff room: what a jail, a prison wellness center and a sheriff’s training room each hold, the equipment that takes continuous shift use, the documentation and financing a public purchase needs, and where the inmate side gets handed to our sister company Fit Supply instead of quoted wrong.
Design

Six decisions that produce a staff room that holds up around the clock and a purchase that holds up in a commissioners court packet.
Know which room you are buying for
Officer wellness rooms take standard commercial equipment — racks, plate-loaded strength, cardio, rubber — and that is what a used-equipment quote is for. Inmate dayrooms and yards need fixed, anchored equipment with no removable parts, no cables and no loose weight; that specification goes to Fit Supply, and we will say so on the first call rather than sell into the wrong room.
Confirm the floor before the rack
Staff rooms are specified for continuous shift use and to the 100 psf live load of IBC Table 1607. A room carved out of an administration building or above a housing unit can often take the equipment — but the engineer of record confirms it from the drawings, not the dealer. Send the drawings and we will flag what needs confirming.
Shift use never recovers
A corporate room peaks three times a day; a correctional staff room is used across every shift and the machines never really rest. Choose commercial lines with living parts support, and put the longer warranty on the pieces that run all day — the treadmill, the air bike, the rack.
Officer fitness is strength and conditioning
The staff room leans into racks, plate-loaded strength, sleds and air bikes the way a fire station does, on thick rubber that protects the slab and whoever is below it. Variety matters less than duplicate stations at shift change.
Power and flooring
Each treadmill needs its own dedicated 120 V 20 A circuit with a NEMA 5-20R outlet and an isolated neutral and ground. Rubber: 3/8–1/2 in under racks and free weights, 8 mm under cardio and selectorized, down before the machines.
Documentation is part of the spec
Public money has to justify "why not new" line by line, and a private operator has a regional office asking the same question. Real inspection and service documentation per machine, a clearly stated condition tier and warranty, and a delivered price to the facility are the paperwork the packet needs.

- A cardio bank — treadmills, ellipticals, air bikes, rowers, a stair climber if the ceiling allows — on dedicated circuits
- Racks, a Smith machine or plate-loaded line, a functional trainer
- A selectorized circuit for the officers who train alone

Deputies and detention staff on shift schedules, sometimes a defensive-tactics mat room next door.

Used cable machines in an inmate area
Anything with a pin, a cable or a loose plate is a security problem in a dayroom. That room needs fixed equipment, which is a Fit Supply specification, not a used purchase.
A rack above a housing unit, unconfirmed
Floor load is the engineer of record’s call from the drawings. Confirm before the truck, not after.
Missing the fiscal-year window
A quote that lands after the county budget closes waits a year. Tell us the calendar first.
A delivery nobody cleared
A truck at the gate without an escort or a window goes home. Freight is quoted and scheduled to the facility’s rules.

Do you offer financing?
Financing is available for qualified purchases on larger orders. Ask about it when you request your quote so it can factor into which condition tier and how much equipment you go with.
What's the difference between Cleaned & Serviced and Remanufactured?
Cleaned & Serviced means the machine is deep-cleaned and its moving and wear components are inspected, lubricated, or replaced as needed. Cosmetic condition is not addressed — no repainting or touch-up is included, so expect honest blemishes, wear, and scratches. Remanufactured means the machine is repainted, worn components are replaced with new parts, and it is made mechanically sound — our highest condition standard, though still pre-owned equipment. Both tiers go through the same written 20-point inspection by our own technicians; the difference is how far each point is taken. Warranty follows the tier: 30-day parts-and-labor on Cleaned & Serviced, 90-day on Remanufactured.
Do I get a warranty on used equipment?
It depends on the condition tier. As-Is equipment carries no warranty and is sold at its stated condition. Cleaned & Serviced includes a 30-day parts-and-labor warranty. Remanufactured includes a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty. Full terms are in our Terms and Conditions.
How fast can equipment ship once I order?
It depends on the specific machine, the condition tier, and freight to your location — your quote will include a real delivery estimate, not a generic lead time.
Do you ship gym equipment nationwide?
Yes — we ship to all 48 contiguous states from our DFW Airport, Texas warehouse. Every order is quoted as a real delivered price against your ZIP code, with commercial freight we arrange ourselves. Local pickup at the warehouse is also welcome if you'd rather come to us.
