How to equip a fire station, police gym or rec center on public money
A station gym is used by rotating shifts at all 24 hours with no supervision, and it is very often on an upper floor above sleeping quarters — where the floor load has to be confirmed before a rack goes in. A city rec center serves the whole community, every age and ability, on a budget that was voted on. Both buy pre-owned commercial equipment for the same reason: it is public money, and "why not new" is the question every line has to answer to a chief, a council or a board.
Fire and police departments, cities and counties are a recurring public-sector segment for us. Design
Designing for continuous shift use and public accountability
Six decisions that produce a room that holds up around the clock and a purchase that holds up in a council packet.
Confirm the floor before the rack
Station and municipal rooms are specified for continuous shift use and to the 100 psf live load of IBC Table 1607. A station gym on an upper floor above sleeping quarters can often take the equipment — but that is confirmed by the engineer of record from the building’s drawings, not assumed. Send us the drawings and we will flag what needs confirming.
Shift use never recovers
A corporate room peaks three times a day; a station is used across every shift and the machines never really rest. Choose commercial lines with living parts support, and put the longer warranty on the pieces that run all day — the treadmill, the air bike, the rack.
Firefighter fitness is strength and conditioning
A station gym leans harder into racks, plate-loaded strength, sleds and air bikes than an amenity room does, on thick rubber that protects the slab and the sleeping quarters below from noise. A rec center is the opposite: variety and accessibility for the whole community.
Accessible for the whole community
A rec center is a public accommodation: at least one machine of each type with the ADA 30 by 48 in clear floor space beside it on an accessible route, and 25–50 sq ft per station (ACSM’s range) with room to circulate.
Power and flooring
Each treadmill needs its own dedicated 120 V 20 A circuit with a NEMA 5-20R outlet and an isolated neutral and ground. Rubber: 3/8–1/2 in under racks and free weights, 8 mm under cardio and selectorized, down before the machines.
Documentation is part of the spec
Public money has to justify "why not new" line by line. Real inspection and service documentation per machine, a clearly stated condition tier and warranty, and a delivered price to the station are the paperwork a board or council needs.

The fire station gym
400–800 sq ft · often an upper-floor bay room
A shift of firefighters training between calls, around the clock.
- A power rack or half rack, adjustable bench, bar and bumper plates

The police department gym
800–1,500 sq ft · a headquarters or training-center room
Officers on shift schedules, a fitness standard to train for, sometimes a defensive-tactics mat room next door.
- Two treadmills, an elliptical, an air bike, a rower, a stair climber if the ceiling allows
- Racks, a Smith machine or plate-loaded line, a functional trainer
- Selectorized pulldown/row, press and leg stations
- Full dumbbell run, kettlebells, plate storage, thick rubber in the lifting zone
Condition tier: Remanufactured on the cardio bank, Cleaned & Serviced on the strength; quoted as one package for the fiscal-year request.
The community rec center
1,500–4,000 sq ft · a city or county facility
Every age and ability in the community, staffed part of the day, programmed the rest.
- A cardio bank with treadmills, ellipticals, recumbent and upright bikes, rowers on dedicated circuits
- A full selectorized circuit at ADA spacing plus a functional trainer
- A supervised free-weight zone with racks, benches and dumbbells

Do you offer financing?
Financing is available for qualified purchases on larger orders. Ask about it when you request your quote so it can factor into which condition tier and how much equipment you go with.
What's the difference between Cleaned & Serviced and Remanufactured?
Cleaned & Serviced means the machine is deep-cleaned and its moving and wear components are inspected, lubricated, or replaced as needed. Cosmetic condition is not addressed — no repainting or touch-up is included, so expect honest blemishes, wear, and scratches. Remanufactured means the machine is repainted, worn components are replaced with new parts, and it is made mechanically sound — our highest condition standard, though still pre-owned equipment. Both tiers go through the same written 20-point inspection by our own technicians; the difference is how far each point is taken. Warranty follows the tier: 30-day parts-and-labor on Cleaned & Serviced, 90-day on Remanufactured.
Do I get a warranty on used equipment?
It depends on the condition tier. As-Is equipment carries no warranty and is sold at its stated condition. Cleaned & Serviced includes a 30-day parts-and-labor warranty. Remanufactured includes a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty. Full terms are in our Terms and Conditions.
How fast can equipment ship once I order?
It depends on the specific machine, the condition tier, and freight to your location — your quote will include a real delivery estimate, not a generic lead time.
