Since 2012, Discount Online Fitness has outfitted spaces like these nationwide from its DFW Airport, Texas warehouse.
A home buyer is usually choosing between one or two machines for a specific room, not outfitting a floor — a squat rack and a bench, a single cardio piece, a compact multi-station. The decision comes down to real footprint (ceiling height, doorway width, floor load) and a real budget, and that's the whole job: point you at in-stock equipment that actually fits, at a price that clears a personal budget rather than a facility one.

How to build a home gym that actually gets used
A home gym fails for one of two reasons: the equipment is the wrong equipment for the person, or the room was never really checked before the truck arrived. Commercial machines are the cure for the first problem — they are built for hours of daily use by strangers, so one household cannot wear them out, and every wear part on them is a service item rather than a reason to replace the machine. The second problem is why this page exists.
We sell more equipment to individual buyers than to any facility type — home gyms, garage gyms, and private training rooms are our largest customer group by count and by dollars. That is not a side line for us. Below is the same walk-through we give a buyer who calls: what a good home room looks like, what fits in the space you have, which machines earn their footprint, and exactly what we do between "I want a treadmill" and a machine running in your garage.
Design
Designing the room before buying the machine
Five things decide whether a home gym works, and none of them are the brand on the console. Check these first and the equipment choice becomes easy.
Footprint — 150 sq ft is the floor
A functional single-purpose home gym starts around 150 sq ft; 200–300 sq ft gives room for cardio and strength together. A commercial treadmill needs roughly 3 × 7 ft of floor plus clear space behind it; a rack with a bench wants an 8 × 8 ft zone so a bar can be loaded from both sides. Draw the room at scale before you fall in love with a machine.
Ceiling height
Treadmills add 8–12 in of deck height under you, so an 8-ft ceiling works for most people on a treadmill and is tight for a taller user on an elliptical or a stair climber. Full-height power racks run 7–8 ft tall; low garage ceilings take a half rack or a shorter-upright rack instead. Tell us your ceiling and we will rule machines in or out before quoting.
The route in
Measure the narrowest door, turn and stair on the way to the room. Commercial treadmills commonly run 34–37 in wide — a 36-in exterior door takes one upright; a 30–32 in interior door usually means the machine goes through on its side or the door comes off. Selectorized machines and leg presses often ship partly disassembled for exactly this reason.
Power
A 110 V commercial treadmill needs its own dedicated 20-amp circuit with a NEMA 5-20R outlet and an isolated neutral and ground — not a shared bedroom circuit. Have it run before delivery day, because a treadmill delivered to a room without it cannot be commissioned that day. Many commercial ellipticals, bikes and rowers are self-powered and need no outlet at all, which is why they suit garages.
Floor and flooring
A commercial treadmill weighs 300–450 lb and a selectorized machine with its stack 500–900 lb. On a slab (garage, ground floor) that is a non-issue; on a framed upper floor, put rubber tile down to spread the load and keep the heaviest stack machine near a bearing wall. Rubber: 8 mm under cardio, 3/8–1/2 in under a rack and free weights — it protects the slab, kills noise and keeps machines level.
Heat, dust and humidity
Garages in Texas are hard on electronics and belts. A treadmill in a garage wants a level, swept floor, shade from direct sun on the console, and the deck waxed on schedule. Self-powered cardio and plate-loaded strength shrug off a hot garage; a touchscreen treadmill is happier in a conditioned room.

Most home buyers land in one of these three. The equipment mixes are what we actually quote for each, built from the same live inventory shown below.
The corner
~100–150 sq ft · a spare room or half a garage bay
One or two people, one main goal — cardio to a screen, or a rack to lift on.
- One cardio piece: a treadmill, a recumbent or upright bike, or a self-powered elliptical
- OR a half rack with an adjustable bench, a bar and plates
- A short dumbbell run (5–50 lb) on a two-tier rack if there is wall space
Condition tier: Cleaned & Serviced. A machine one household uses is not going to wear out a serviced commercial unit, and the cosmetics matter less in a garage than the money saved.
The garage gym
~200–300 sq ft · one full garage bay
Serious daily use, mixed cardio and strength, sometimes a training partner.
- Cardio: a treadmill or an air/indoor bike; a rower if the floor length allows
- Strength: a power rack or half rack, adjustable bench, Olympic bar and rubber plates
- A functional trainer or a compact selectorized multi-station for cable work
- Two-tier dumbbell rack, kettlebells, rubber flooring across the lifting zone
Condition tier: Cleaned & Serviced on the strength and the bike; Remanufactured is worth it on the treadmill if it will run daily and you want the belt, deck and rollers all new.
The dedicated home gym
300+ sq ft · a finished room, pool house or converted space
A household that trains every day and wants it to look like a club, not a garage.
- Two cardio modalities — commonly a touchscreen treadmill plus a recumbent bike or elliptical
- A functional trainer or a multi-station gym for cable and machine work
- Rack, bench, bar and plates, with a mirror wall and rubber flooring
- A full dumbbell run, storage, and a stretch/recovery corner
Condition tier: Remanufactured on the machines you look at every day — repainted, rebuilt, our top standard — and Cleaned & Serviced on the plate-loaded pieces, which have nothing cosmetic to lose.

Cardio that fits a house
For most homes the right first machine is a commercial treadmill (the thing a home-grade treadmill cannot be), a recumbent bike if knees or space are a concern, or a self-powered elliptical that needs no outlet. Indoor cycles are the cheapest door into commercial cardio and take almost no floor.

Racks, benches and the bar
Free weights are where a home gym earns its keep per square foot: one rack, one adjustable bench and a bar cover more training than three machines. Sold as-is where there is nothing to service (plates, bars, dumbbells) and serviced where there is (adjustable benches, cable attachments).

Walk the floor if you are near DFW
The warehouse at DFW Airport is open to the public Monday–Friday 9:00am–5:00pm and weekends by appointment. Put your hands on the exact unit, then decide. Free local pickup is available on in-stock pieces if you would rather bring a trailer — note that picked-up equipment is taken as-inspected and warranty coverage applies to what we deliver.

One delivered price to your driveway
Residential delivery is quoted against the real job — driveway, garage door, stairs — never a flat rate that surprises you on the day. Inside placement and full installation are available where we cover them.

Flooring, financing and service after
Rubber flooring can go down before the machines arrive; financing is available on qualified purchases and changes which tier makes sense, so raise it early. After the sale, both tiers carry a parts-and-labor warranty and our sister company On Site Fitness Service handles maintenance and repair in the home.

Avoid these
The mistakes we see home buyers make
All of them are cheap to avoid before the order and expensive after it.
Buying home-grade because it is cheaper
A consumer treadmill at the same price as a serviced commercial one is built for one household and is often uneconomical to repair when a motor or board fails. The commercial unit has serviceable everything.
Forgetting the circuit
The single most common delivery-day problem. Run the dedicated 20 A circuit first.
Measuring the room but not the route
The machine fit the room on paper and not through the basement stairwell. Measure the narrowest point between the truck and the spot.
Paying Remanufactured money for a garage
If nobody but you will see it and it lives in a garage, Cleaned & Serviced buys the same mechanics for less — spend the difference on flooring or a second machine.
Skipping the rubber
Bare concrete under a rack is loud, hard on plates and hard on the slab; a treadmill on carpet pulls fibre into the motor. Flooring first, then equipment.

A garage gym that sees daily use from one or two people has a different cost/durability tradeoff than a piece bought to sit mostly idle. We'll walk through Cleaned & Serviced vs. Remanufactured against how you'll actually use it, not just upsell the pricier tier.
Freight is scoped to a residential delivery
A home delivery is a different job than a commercial one — driveway, garage door, a flight of stairs. We ask before quoting so the delivered price is real, not a surprise on delivery day.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between Cleaned & Serviced and Remanufactured?
Cleaned & Serviced means the machine is deep-cleaned and its moving and wear components are inspected, lubricated, or replaced as needed. Cosmetic condition is not addressed — no repainting or touch-up is included, so expect honest blemishes, wear, and scratches. Remanufactured means the machine is repainted, worn components are replaced with new parts, and it is made mechanically sound — our highest condition standard, though still pre-owned equipment. Both tiers go through the same written 20-point inspection by our own technicians; the difference is how far each point is taken. Warranty follows the tier: 30-day parts-and-labor on Cleaned & Serviced, 90-day on Remanufactured.
How is delivery priced?
This equipment is heavy and ships pre-assembled, so freight is quoted per order against your real delivery ZIP rather than a flat estimate. Tell us whether it's a home delivery (driveway, garage door, stairs) or a commercial one (loading dock, elevator, freight-hours access) — the two are quoted differently.
Do I get a warranty on used equipment?
It depends on the condition tier. As-Is equipment carries no warranty and is sold at its stated condition. Cleaned & Serviced includes a 30-day parts-and-labor warranty. Remanufactured includes a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty. Full terms are in our Terms and Conditions.
What if the model I want isn't currently listed?
Ask us to source it. If it's not in current listings we can go find it, the same way we do for Dealer Program buyers hunting a specific brand or model.
Do you offer financing?
Financing is available for qualified purchases on larger orders. Ask about it when you request your quote so it can factor into which condition tier and how much equipment you go with.
